Mvubu River Lodge is situated within the Pongola Game Reserve in Northern Zululand; 350 km north of Durban, 450 km south east of Johannesburg, and 270km south of the Kruger National Park. Mvubu is set on a hillside overlooking the Pongola River as it lazily meanders towards the Pongolapoort Dam. We cater for the discerning nature lover offering game drives, boat cruises, guided walks and rhino tracking.
Accommodation is in 11 twin and 2 double en-suite thatched Chalets, all with air-conditioning.
Chalets 1 to 8 as well as 10 & 11 have a river view. Chalet 9 has a bush view. Chalet 1 & 3 are smaller chalets with a Victorian style bath, hand shower and a queen-sized bed. All chalets have a veranda, mini bar fridge. Kettle with cups on each veranda for making your own tea/coffee.
Chalets 12 & 13 overlook a private court yard, and along with Chalets 10 & 11 share a communal fully equipped self-catering kitchen, lounge area with DSTV, small swimming pool and fire pit.
Cool off on those hot Zululand days in the lodge’s main swimming pool.
Guests make use of the kitchen / boma / equipment of the main lodge for preparing of their own meals. Fridges / Freezer space available.
Please take note that all guests at the lodge share these facilities.
Please bring your own charcoal and braai grid - standard hinge lid (toeknyp rooster).

The rates for all activities on offer are as per the activities list and rates. All activities last approximately 3 hours, except for fishing, and booking is essential. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before commencement of a booked activity will be paid in full.

ROAD DIRECTIONS
From Durban:
Take the N2 North bypassing Empangeni and Mkuze. Continue approximately 40km on the N2 towards the Golela/Swaziland turn-off. Turn right and continue for 4 km along the Golela Road. The Pongola Game Reserve Entrance Gate on your right is very well signposted. The gate guard will direct you to the Lodge.
From Johannesburg or Pretoria:
From Johannesburg / Pretoria via Ermelo, continue on the N2 to Piet Retief and Pongola. From Pongola travel approximately 28 km to the Golela/Swaziland turn-off. Turn left and continue for 4 km to the Pongola Game Reserve Entrance Gate on your right. The gate guard will direct you to the lodge.

Please note that the Game Reserve’s internal access roads are gravel roads. These are well maintained and are suitable for normal clearance cars and bakkies, however they are not suitable for vehicles with very low clearance and low profile tyres.
No self-drives allowed in the reserve.
